Personality; At first glance, Raimei does not seem to be different from any other fourteen year old; well except for the covered-up katana, known as Kurogamon (Black Gamon), carried on her back. To the people in the “front world” -- the normal, everyday world -- she is an energetic, friendly, and cheerful teenager. A girl who enjoys eating fried pastries, hanging out with her friends, talking on the phone, and sometimes the type to playfully tease others, especially Kouichi. Someone who is honest and straightforward to those around her; someone whose emotions are easily seen by her reactions and facial expressions alone. It isn’t difficult to notice her current mood. Yet in the Nabari world -- the secret world of the Shinobi -- Raimei is a part of Fuuma Village, but is also the last surviving samurai from the Shimizu clan. Due to the rules of the Nabari World, a place where mercy could mean death to a warrior, Raimei can be ruthless against her opponents, especially after she releases Black Gamon from it’s sheath. She follows the code of both the shinobi and the Shimizu Clan, where no one is allowed to direct their weapons against outsiders of the Nabari world. It is a principal that Raimei believes wholeheartedly and uses daily. Her blade is only directed against other ninjas that try to take away the life of those closest to her or her own. She can be very protective of those she cherishes most.
Even though she comes from a brutal world, Raimei is not a blood-thirsty murderer either. Raimei is actually an energetic, caring, and friendly teenager....once you get to know her. At first, she can come off as loud, blunt, a bit judgemental, and sometimes difficult to deal with. Her emotions are easy to read, and she is the type to react before planning ahead. Those who know Raimei describe her as being straightforward and easy to understand. It can be both a good or bad quality depending on the situation. Raimei has a hard time keeping secrets because they tend to be revealed from her actions. Sometimes Raimei, herself, gives it away due to getting excited or forgetting about the current situation. Like, for example, accidentally telling the enemy secret information.
Then again, Raimei isn’t entirely easy to read either.
There are details about herself that other people don’t usually notice from the get-go. She might be easy to read from the outside and have a hard time keeping secrets, but she doesn’t reveal her most personal thoughts as easily. Raimei only shares those private thoughts only to those she trust most. Sometimes Raimei will speak in more detail about it because some of the details were leaked, or will receive some sort benefit in return. Her motivation and priorities tend to be connected. Once she has the motivation to reach a specific goal, then she is determined and will use everything and anyone in her power to achieve it. Even if it takes her a long time to do it, her persistence and patience keep her from giving up.
Spilling out secrets and using others to reach her objectives aren’t her only weaknesses either. Raimei has a hard time using words to communicate her thoughts and feelings to others. Sometimes she will react violently -- like punching someone in the face -- whenever she feels flustered or doesn’t know how to respond. Then again, Raimei has a even harder time communicating whenever her priorities begin to clash, forcing her to have a hard time making a decision. Every commitment and promise made are very important to her. Raimei is the type to never make a promise she can’t keep, and even though her priorities have a way of swaying from one thing to another, she will always stick to what’s most important to her especially with her friend’s support.

It even gets to the point that she easily confuse others, no matter how close a relationship she has with them. For example, she might be talking to Miharu one minute, but without realizing it she was actually talking to someone else. It doesn’t go as far as interactions only. She can also easily confuse her target (which she was carefully following after) once her thoughts get in the way. It is a bad habit of hers, and can be dangerous to make on the wrong time. And just like her thoughts, she also has a habit of mistaking other people’s names.

If it was not for Gau intervening, then she would have never understood the true tragedy behind her family’s death. Her motivation to change is also connected to her loyalty to her friends. She wants to be reliable and counted on by them to help carry any burdens they might have. Not only that, but she doesn’t want to be left behind by their decisions either. She wants to be the first to know about the situation, no matter how hard it may seem to understand. Her loyalty to her friends is unquestionable and will go as far as ignore her duties as a Shimizu for them.
The one thing Raimei hates more than anything is to be protected when there is no need to; especially if it causes the other person to carry a heavy burden. She values honesty, and won’t take lightly being lied to or underestimated either. That is what she told Raikou, her older brother, after learning the truth about her family’s death. When she fought him for the second time, she wanted to prove to him that she was strong enough to handle the truth and continue living in the Nabari World.
Her relationship with her brother is complicated even without the misunderstandings between them. They both might share similar beliefs, but follow two different paths. Raimei wants to improve her relationship with Raikou, but she does not know where to begin. Then again, she is also busy protecting and helping Miharu to be chasing after him.
Words might not be her strength, but her will to persevere is amazing. Raimei is always trying to do the best that she can even when she does not fully understand the situation. When things get tough, she doesn’t quit or turn back, but instead walks forward without giving up. Be it training to be the strongest samurai or trying to improve her faults, Raimei is always working hard. She doesn’t believe in short cuts or even using the most powerful tool to achieve her goals because everything is done by her own skill and effort.
Raimei works hard to become the strongest samurai in the Nabari World by constantly training and honing her skills, and has been doing so ever since she was a little girl. It doesn’t matter how strong her partners are; she will even fight against an injured comrade. Her training goes as far as even doing it when she is injured. Her ability to heal quickly from -- minor to serious --- injuries are a result of her strong-will and constant training regimen. There is never a free time where she is not sparring with others. Raimei is also very resourceful. If she is forced into a fight without her katana, then she will quickly use a another weapon to use.
And due to her belief in working hard, she does not believe in using ninjutsu unlike everyone else from the Nabari World. It even goes to the point that she calls ninjutsu “petty”; even though she is part of a ninja clan and world. But it doesn’t mean she is weak or has an unfair disadvantage, either. Raimei can easily defeat weaker ninja opponents from other villages, and can match her abilities against a few higher class ninjas, as well. She has confidence in her speed, strength, and knowledge in using Black Gamon.
Most of her beliefs were taught to her by her mother, who she admired wholeheartedly. Raimei is proud to be a Shimizu and continues to follow their same principles by being neutral and keeping the balance of both the Nabari and surface world. However, due to recent events involving her close friends, she has been having a hard time remaining neutral because of her excess loyalty towards them. She trusts Miharu’s judgement, and believes it is his decision to use the Shinrabansho or not. As long as no one disturbs the balance of both worlds, then she will not take action against them.
In conclusion, Raimei is an interesting character with many strengths and weaknesses. She can be loud, emotional, and difficult, but she is also caring, persistent, hard-working, and a loyal friend.
